Oregon Collaborative Divorce Statistics

Nationwide, about 10.5 percent of adults have been through a divorce. However, in Oregon, the percentage of divorce is 2 percent higher, with 12.5 percent of adults having been divorced.

Individuals who recently had a friend get divorced are almost three times more likely to get a divorce themselves.

Oregon ranks 14th in the nation when it comes to the number of divorces. Each year in Oregon, there are 3.4 divorces for every 1,000 people. The highest divorce rate in the nation is in Nevada, with 4.5 divorces per 1,000 people.

According to government statistics, there were over 13,300 Oregon divorces in 2019. Nearly 2,500 of those divorces were in Multnomah County, making it the county with the most divorces in the state. This figure is down slightly from 2018, in which there were about 14,100 Oregon divorces.

The average age for a first marriage is currently 26.9 for men and 25.3 for women.

For marriages that end in divorce, the average length of the marriage is just under eight years.

According to recent statistics, the odds of an individual marriage ending in divorce can be measured with the following:

  • 41 percent of first marriages will end in divorce
  • 60 percent of second marriages will end in divorce
  • 73 percent of third marriages will end in divorce

A 2010 survey of those who have been through a collaborative divorce found that 58 percent of cases were completed in less than nine months.

While every divorce is different, a recent study showed that collaborative divorces cost, on average, between $17,800 and $25,600, which is approximately one-third the cost of a litigated divorce.
