David Gearing is a founding partner at Gearing Rackner & McGrath and is licensed to practice law in the state of Oregon.

Portland Family Law Attorney David Gearing was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1983 from the University of Oregon and his Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1980 from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

David practices all areas of family law, with a special emphasis on mediation. He also focuses on complex financial cases involving closely held businesses, real estate, retirement benefits, securities and other investments, spousal support, child support, and child custody issues. He regularly provides pro bono services to minor children who need independent representation.

David has served as a Circuit Court Judge Pro Tempore in domestic relations cases in Clackamas County since 2011 and has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2010. He co-authored the Oregon State Bar Family Law Book’s chapter on custody and parenting time. David holds the “AV Preeminent” peer review rating by Martindale Hubbell, which signifies the highest level of professional excellence for his legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.

David serves as a member of the Multnomah County, Clackamas County and Washington County Bar Associations; the Oregon State Bar – Family Law Section; and the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners.

David is an avid sportsman. His activities include running, fishing, skiing, and playing baseball. He has coached and volunteered in youth sports for many years. He is also on the board of directors of the Mount Hood Forest Homeowners Association.
